THE UNITED STATES MISSION IN THE LAO PEOPLE’S DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC (LAO PDR) IS TRANSMITTING THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION AS A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT TO AMERICAN CITIZENS LIVING IN AND/OR TRAVELING IN THE LAO PDR. PLEASE DISSEMINATE THIS MESSAGE TO ALL U.S. CITIZENS IN YOUR ORGANIZATION OR NEIGHBORHOOD.
Event: Typhoon Kajiki is expected to make landfall in the northern Lao provinces early morning Tuesday, August 26 with the storm effects impacting Laos until Wednesday August 27. Extremely heavy rainfall is expected in Xieng Khouang, Xayaboury, Luang Prabang, Vientiane, Xaisomboun, Bokeo, Bolikhamxay, Khammouane, Savannakhet. The Mekong River Commission reports that Xieng Khouang, Bolikhamxay, and Khammouane may experience flash floods. Attapeau province has also issued a flood warning
We urge you to:
- Avoid any low-lying areas prone to flooding;
- Monitor the news and stay abreast of developments;
- Take precautions to safeguard yourselves, your families, and your residences;
- Check your emergency kit to ensure you have needed medicines and other supplies;
- Protect your important documents including your passport; and
- Keep your family at home informed about your safety and welfare.
