THE UNITED STATES MISSION IN THE LAO PEOPLE’S DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC (LAO PDR) IS TRANSMITTING THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION AS A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT TO AMERICAN CITIZENS LIVING IN AND/OR TRAVELING IN THE LAO PDR. PLEASE DISSEMINATE THIS MESSAGE TO ALL U.S. CITIZENS IN YOUR ORGANIZATION OR NEIGHBORHOOD.
The United States Embassy is aware of flood threats in northern Laos and in Vientiane now and over the upcoming weekend. Vientiane authorities have issued a notice of heavy rains and rapidly rising water levels through September 16th.
We urge you to:
- avoid any low-lying areas prone to flooding
- monitor the news and stay abreast of developments
- take precautions to safeguard yourselves, your families, and your residences
- check your emergency kit to ensure you have needed medicines and other supplies
- protect your important documents including your passport
- keep your family at home informed about your safety and welfare
