Security Alert – Unrest in Paktha District, Bokeo Province – U.S. Embassy Vientiane, Lao PDR
Location: Paktha District, Bokeo Province, Lao PDR
Event: There are reports of recent clashes between the Lao army and unidentified armed groups on the Lao/Thai border in the Paktha District of Bokeo province. Local officials have requested raised security levels, which will include an increase in military checkpoints and troop presence.
Actions to take:
- Reconsider any travel plans to Bokeo or northern Sainyabuli (aka Xayabouly) provinces.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Contact the U.S. Embassy if you need assistance or are aware of any U.S. citizens who need assistance.
