Demonstration Alert: Kenya, Violent Protests Nationwide June 25

Demonstration Alert for U.S. Citizens

Various towns across Kenya

 

Event:

Violent protests are ongoing, primarily in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) and on Thika Highway, as protestors have clashed with the police. The police have responded with tear gas and ammunition. Protests—some violent—are also occurring in towns across Kenya, including Kiambu, Machakos, Eldoret, Nakuru, Kisii, Mombasa, Nyeri, Nanyuki, Meru, and Homa Bay. The police have set up checkpoints in numerous locations.

 

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid protests and crowds.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Keep doors locked and windows rolled up while in a vehicle.
  • Notify friends and family of your whereabouts and safety.
  • Review your personal security plans.
  • Carry a copy of your U.S. passport with current Kenyan visa.
