Security Alert: Kingston (Jamaica), Reports of a Shooting Incident on Barbican Road

Location:  Barbican Road between the Sovereign North Shopping Plaza and Burger King in Kingston, St. Andrew Parish

Event:  There are reports of a shooting incident on Barbican Road between the Sovereign North Shopping Plaza and Burger King in Kingston, St. Andrew Parish.  Police are active in the area and redirecting traffic.  U.S. Embassy Kingston personnel have been instructed by the Embassy Regional Security Office to use alternate routes until further notice.

U.S. citizens should:

• Use alternative routes and avoid passing through the area of Barbican Road between the Sovereign North Shopping Plaza and Burger King in Kingston until the situation is resolved
• Monitor local media for updates
• Be aware of your surroundings
• Do not physically resist any robbery attempt
