Security Alert: Message for U.S. Citizens: U.S. Mission Iraq (June 13, 2025)
Location: Iraq, countrywide
Event: Due to regional events, there are indications there may be missiles, drones, or rockets flying over Iraqi airspace. Please maintain maximum awareness and, in the event of such an incident, seek overhead cover and shelter in place until further notice. Remain indoors and do not expose yourself to falling debris.
Due to high tensions in the region, the security environment remains complex and can change quickly. We remind U.S. citizens of the continued need for caution and encourage them to monitor the news for breaking developments.
As of Friday, June 13, the Iraqi Ministry of Transportation has announced the continued full suspension of air traffic at all Iraqi airports and the temporary closure of Iraqi airspace, in order to ensure the safety of passengers amid regional security tensions. U.S. citizens seeking to depart Iraq should confirm their plans with their airlines.
U.S. Mission Iraq will continue to review the situation and provide additional information as needed. The Department of State maintains a Level 4 Travel Advisory (“Do Not Travel”) for Iraq. U.S. citizens should not travel to Iraq for any reason.
