Weather Alert: India, Cyclone Montha makes landfall October 28

Weather Alert – (Heavy Rain and Flooding) – U.S. Consulate General (Kolkata, India) (October 28, 2025)

Location: West Bengal 

Event: Please be advised that a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclonic storm named Montha.  The storm is expected to make landfall on the evening of October 28 and may cause heavy rains throughout India’s east coast, including parts of West Bengal. From Wednesday, October 29 to Friday, October 31, 2025, the Indian Meteorological Department forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall that could cause localized flooding and possible landslides across West Bengal, particularly the northern regions of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to ensure safety.

• Avoid travel to the U.S. Consulate General Kolkata during inclement weather.

• Seek secure shelter and stay indoors until roads are cleared.

• Monitor the local news for updates.

• Be aware of your surroundings.
