Demonstration Alert - U.S. Embassy Reykjavik Iceland (December 12, 2023)

Location: U.S. Embassy, Reykjavik, Iceland

Event:  A demonstration is planned on December 12, 2023, beginning at 17:00 outside of the U.S. Embassy at Engjateigur 7 in Reykjavik.  The Iceland-Palestine Organization is protesting U.S. support of Israel following the Hamas terror attack on October 7, 2023.  The U.S. Embassy plans an early closure on December 12 but will reopen as scheduled on December 13.

Regular demonstrations over the conflict have been occurring in Reykjavik outside Government House, at Tjarnargata 32, including occasional weekend marches from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, at Rauðarárstígur 25, to the Alþthingi (Parliament) down Laugavegur. 

The Department of State has advised U.S. citizens overseas to exercise increased caution because of increased tensions in various locations around the world.

• Avoid demonstrations or crowds.
