Location: Iceland; volcanic eruption in Reykjanes peninsula, southwest Iceland
Event: The Icelandic Met Office has confirmed that volcanic eruption has started in Fagradalsfjall just before 22:00 tonight. The NCO Civil Protection Joint Rescue and Coordination Center has been activated. The Keflavik International Airport has been put on Code RED, which means that the airport is closed until the authorities have assessed the situation. In addition, Reykjanesbraut, the road between Reykjavik and Keflavik airport, is closed.
The Icelandic Civil Protection authorities ask that people remain calm and do not, under any circumstances, go close to the eruption site. Scientists are working to assess the eruption.

Avoid the area near Fagradalsfjall.
Notify friends and family of your safety.
Review your personal security plans.
Be aware of your surroundings.
If you have a flight scheduled over the coming days, please confirm with your airline.
