10 MINUTE READ
March 3, 2025

Location:   Nationwide
The Honduran primary elections will be held on Sunday, March 9 from approximately 7:00 am until 6:00 pm.  U.S. citizens should expect a heavy police and military presence throughout Honduras on voting day, with activity concentrated at polling sites and voting centers that are often located in schools.  Demonstrations or crowds could materialize with little advance notice.  While demonstrations can occur anywhere, locations around government buildings and polling sites could be especially affected.  You may encounter road closures and other traffic disruptions.
 Actions to Take:
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Carry proper identification at all times.
  • Have alternative transportation routes in mind.
  • Avoid crowds and demonstrations.
  • Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings.
  • Monitor local media and U.S. Embassy Instagram Facebook  and  pages for updates.   Be prepared to adjust your plans.
  • Keep a low profile.
  • Review your personal security plans.
  • Have travel documents and identification up to date and easily accessible.
  • U.S. citizens who travel abroad should always have a contingency plan for emergency situations.  Review the Traveler’s Checklist .
