Weather Alert: Western Honduras, Elevated Risk of Flooding

Honduras’s Ministry of Emergency Assistance (COPECO) issued a “Yellow Alert” on September 18 warning of heavy rain and flooding in western Honduras, including in Tegucigalpa, Copan, Ocotepeque, Lempira, Intibuca, and Santa Barbara. The alert is scheduled to remain in effect for 48 hours.

Actions to Take: 

  • Avoid swollen rivers.
  • Avoid traveling to flooded areas and exercise caution on the roads.
  • Do not sail in small- and medium-sized vessels along the Caribbean coast.
  • Seek secure shelter.
  • Have travel documents up to date and easily accessible.
  • Prepare an emergency supply kit (Ready.gov) .
  • Notify friends and family of your safety.
  • Visit the National Hurricane Center,  for updated storm tracking information.
  • Monitor guidelines issued by local authorities  and local media for updates.
