Demonstration Alert: Guyana, Planned Protests Throughout Guyana on April 26

Security Alert- U.S. Embassy Georgetown, Guyana (April 26, 2025)

Location: Multiple Areas Outside Georgetown

Event: This is a security alert to inform you of planned protests today at Tuschen Public Road, East Bank Essequibo, Leonora Public Road, West Coast Demerara, and Belladrum Iron Bridge, West Coast Berbice. It is not known how long these protests will continue. These protests are motivated by the public's concern over police handling in response of the tragic death of an 11-year old Arianna Younge in Tuschen and Ronaldo Peters and Keon Fogenay in Linden. These protests can escalate quickly to violence and police clashes. Traffic and public transportation will be disrupted. There will be increased law enforcement presence in these areas.

 

Actions to Take: 

·     Avoid these areas of the demonstrations.

·     Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.

·     Monitor local media for updates.

·     Keep a low profile.
