Event: General Strike and Demonstrations on April 9, 2025
Public and private sector employees announced a 24-hour general strike throughout Greece for Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
In Athens, related demonstrations are scheduled in Syntagma Square at 10:30 AM and Klafthmonos Square at 11:00 AM.
In Thessaloniki, related demonstrations are scheduled at the Venizelos Statue on Egnatia Street at 10:30 AM and at the Arch of Galerius (Kamara) at 11:00 AM.
The following means of transportation are expected to experience interruptions on April 9, 2025, due to the general strike:
· Air traffic controllers will be on a 24-hour strike.
· Ferry employees will be on a 24-hour strike.
· Buses and trolleys in Athens will operate from 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM.
· Buses in Thessaloniki will operate with reduced service.
· Athens Metro will operate from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
· The Attica/Peloponnese Suburban Railway will be on a 24-hour strike.
· The National Railway will be on a 24-hour strike.
Other organizations may decide to join the 24-hour general strike without prior warning. Please monitor www.apergia.gr as well as local media for last-minute strike notifications and demonstration information.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid demonstration areas.
- Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Keep a low profile.
