Location: Athens and Thessaloniki
The U.S. Mission in Greece alerts U.S. citizens to planned demonstrations in Athens on Wednesday October 18, 2023 and in Thessaloniki on Thursday, October 19, 2023.
A demonstration is planned at Syntagma Square in Athens on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. to be followed with a march to the Israeli Embassy. A separate demonstration is planned at the Israeli Embassy at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. In Thessaloniki, a demonstration is planned at Venizelos Statue in Thessaloniki on Thursday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m. and in Alexandroupoli at 6:00 p.m. Extra police measures will be in place. A large number of participants are expected.
Demonstrations may take place with short notice. Please monitor local media for last-minute demonstration information.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid the areas of the demonstrations.
- Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Keep a low profile.
- Review your travel plans.
