U.S. Embassy Tbilisi Security Alert – May 2, 2024
Location: Around the Parliament building in Tbilisi on Shota Rustaveli Avenue
Event: Large demonstrations related to the proposed “On Transparency of Foreign Influence” law are expected to continue in front of the Parliament building in Tbilisi on Shota Rustaveli Avenue. Demonstrators may be found on Rustaveli Avenue extending in both directions away from the Parliament building and on streets connecting to Rustaveli Avenue in the immediate area. Significant traffic disruptions in and around Tbilisi should be expected leading up to and during demonstrations.
Recent demonstrations have seen confrontations and violence between attendees and law enforcement officials. For security reasons, U.S. Embassy Tbilisi is prohibiting the use of hotels inside the area outlined in red below for any temporary duty U.S. government employees in Georgia. In addition, U.S. citizen embassy staff are prohibited from entering the demarcated area below from 18:00 to 05:00 without prior embassy approval.
