Security Alert: Gabon, Airport and Borders Have Reopened, Curfew Remains in Effect

Security Alert - U. S. Embassy Libreville, Gabon (Sept 5, 2023)

 

Location: Gabon

 

Event: The airport and borders are now open.  The Libreville airport is open for domestic and international flights.  Travelers are advised to keep boarding passes on hand if arriving during the imposed curfew.

 

A curfew remains in effect in Gabon between 18:00 and 06:00, until further notice.

 

The U.S. Embassy advises U.S. citizens limit unnecessary movements during the imposed curfew.

 

Actions to Take:

 

  • Respect the curfew.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Keep a low profile.
  • Avoid demonstrations.
  • Avoid crowds.
  • Notify friends and family of your safety.
  • Use caution when walking or driving at night.
  • Stay alert in locations frequented by tourists/Westerners.
  • Make contingency plans to leave.
  • Review your personal security plans.
  • Have travel documents up to date and easily accessible.
  • Carry proper identification, including a U.S. passport with a current Gabonese visa.
  • Have evacuation plans that do not rely on U.S. government assistance.
  • Monitor local media for update
