Message for U.S. Citizens: All Border Crossings with Russia Closed

Event: Finnish authorities announced the closure of the Raja-Jooseppi border crossing point to/from Russia from 12:01 AM Thursday, November 30 until December 13. During this time, all land border crossing points between Finland and Russia will be closed. U.S. Embassy Helsinki anticipates the following status for Russia/Finland ports of entry:
o The Niirala, Nuijamaa, Imatra, Vaalimaa, Salla, Kuusamo, Vartius, and Raja-Jooseppi border crossing points are closed until December 13, 2023.
· You can find the latest border crossing status and requirements for entry to Finland from the Finnish Border Guard’s website.
· The U.S. government’s ability to provide routine or emergency services to U.S. citizens in Russia is severely limited, particularly in areas far from the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, due to Russian government limitations on travel for U.S. embassy personnel and staffing, and the ongoing suspension of operations, including consular services, at U.S. consulates in Russia.
· At this time, U.S. citizens are advised not to travel to Russia. More information on the State Department’s Level 4 Travel Advisory (Do Not Travel) can be found on travel.state.gov.
