Weather Alert: Fiji, Severe Tropical Cyclone Yasa

The Fiji Meteorological Service advises that Severe Tropical Cyclone Yasa is approaching Fiji. The category 5 cyclone will bring heavy rain and strong, damaging winds to affected areas starting Thursday.

The U.S. Embassy will be closed Thursday and Friday. For emergencies involving U.S. citizens, the Embassy’s duty officer can be reached at +679 772 8049. (Please note that the duty officer is unable to assist with visa-related issues.)

Actions to take:

Monitor local media and weather forecasts. Be aware that forecast storm paths can change.
Follow directions of local officials.
Do not walk or drive across flooded areas.
