The embassy is aware of social media posts calling for bombings and/or an escalation in violence against schools located in Addis Ababa and open public marketplaces on behalf of Boko Haram. The posts do not provide a reason, intended persons, or a specific time/date.
The U.S. Embassy has recommended that embassy staff avoid public areas and exercise increased caution. Although the threat is not specific against embassy personnel, U.S. citizens, or foreigners in general, the U.S. Embassy in Ethiopia reminds U.S. citizens that the threat of being in the wrong place at the wrong time remains a primary concern.
