SECURITY ALERT – U.S. Embassy, Ezulwini
Location: Throughout Eswatini
Event: The government of Eswatini has announced a nationwide curfew from 1800 – 0500 effective immediately. Martial law has been declared nationwide. Dangerous civil unrest continues in Eswatini, including the use of deadly force by security forces.
All flights out of KMIII International Airport are suspended until further notice. Embassy staff have been directed to remain home.
Internet service is expected to degrade as Internet Service Providers have been told to shut down. Cell phone service is still available, but data services (such as WhatsApp) will be spotty, if existent at all.
The U.S. Embassy is operating with reduced services. U.S. citizens needing emergency services should call the Consular Section using the contact information below.
Actions to Take:
- Monitor local media for updates on changing conditions
- Expect communication disruptions; contact family and friends to let them know you are safe.
- If safe, stock up on groceries and water and then stay home
