The U.S. Embassy is aware of calls for heightened civil unrest in Eswatini on June 29. Out of an abundance of caution, embassy employees will be on maximum telework posture on the 29th. The embassy will be open but offering limited services. If assistance is needed that day please call +268 2417 - 9448.
Actions to take:
· Avoid all protests, even peaceful ones, as they always have the potential to rapidly turn violent with little or no notice. Security services may implement additional measures to limit protestors mobility throughout the country or use force to disperse even peaceful protests.
· Keep abreast of current news and monitor your phone for alerts from the embassy.
· If you hear that a demonstration is taking place, avoid the area or stay in your accommodation until you are sure that it is safe to go out.
· Before you go out, establish where the demonstration has taken place and, if possible, avoid the area.
· Take along and consult a maps so that you will know where you are located at all times.
· If you come across a demonstration, do not become inquisitive, just leave the area and find another route to your intended destination.
· Avoid any place where police or security force action is in progress.
