Crime continues to be a concern in Equatorial Guinea. During the winter holidays crimes occur with greater frequency. U.S Citizens should be vigilant. In addition, there will be an increase in law enforcement presence to include additional police checkpoints.
- We recommend that you always carry your travel documents to include a valid Equatoguinean visa.
- Avoid large crowds. If you are in a crowded area, be aware of your surroundings (e.g., pay attention to persons close to you & maintain control of your belongings) and identify exits in the event of an emergency.
- Maintain a low profile in public. Avoid activities that may draw unwanted attention.
- Always plan your route ahead of time to reach your destination without getting lost.
- If out at night, patronize well-lit establishments that offer some sort of security presence.
- Always Park your vehicle in a secure area and remove any items of value.
- Be prepared for road closures and plan alternate routes.
- Monitor local media for breaking events.
- Do not physically resist police search of vehicles or person.
