On June 8, 2013, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared an end to a nearly four-month epidemic of Marburg Virus Disease in Equatorial Guinea.
Based on this information, the U.S. Embassy is lifting the temporary policy under which official travel to the mainland region – including Bata – by Embassy employees was only permitted for mission-critical needs.
According to the WHO update, the outbreak declared on February 13, was the first of its kind in Equatorial Guinea.
