Weather Alert – U.S. Embassy San Salvador, El Salvador (June 16, 2024) 

Location:  El Salvador 

Event: The Ministry of the Environment and the Civil Protection Agency in El Salvador have updated their alerts due to continued rain from a tropical wave that is generating bands of showers and storms that will likely continue for the next few days. Civil Protection has issued a red alert (dangerous weather is occurring now) for the whole country.

Actions to Take:

Track local updates from El Salvador’s Civil Protection and Ministry of Environment: X page: @PROCIVILSV and @MedioAmbienteSV. https://www.proteccioncivil.gob.sv  and https://www.ambiente.gob.sv/
Monitor the local news for updates.
Seek secure shelter.
Do not attempt to drive across water standing on a road no matter how shallow it seems.
Prepare an emergency supply kit (ready.gov ).
Notify friends and family of your safety.
