Security Alert: U.S. Embassy Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (November 21, 2024)
Location: Land Border Between the Dominican Republic and Haiti
Event: The land border between the Dominican Republic and Haiti remains closed for crossings. While the U.S. Embassy has received reports that U.S. citizens have been permitted entry into the Dominican Republic from Haiti at the four official crossings, travelers should monitor local press for information about the crossings’ operational status. The four official crossing points are: Malpasse-Jimaní, Ouanaminthe-Dajabón, Anse-à-Pitres-Pedernales, and Belladère-Comendador (Comendador is commonly referred to as Elias Piña). The U.S. Embassy is not able to facilitate U.S. citizens crossing the land border between the Dominican Republic and Haiti in either direction.
You must adhere to all Dominican immigration laws and only cross at an open, official border crossing. You must receive an entry stamp in your passport from Dominican Republic border authorities. Failure to do so may result in detention, fines, and/or deportation (including deportation of Haitian citizens, including dual nationals, back to Haiti) with up to ten-year bans on returning to the Dominican Republic.
