Security Alert: Zagreb (Czech Republic), Potential for Increased Crime During Holiday Season

Location: Croatia, countrywide

Event: Potential for increased crime during the holiday season and ongoing bomb threats in Croatia and the region.

As crowds gather at holiday markets and to watch World Cup football games, the U.S. Embassy reminds Americans to be aware of their surroundings as pickpocketing and other petty crime may increase.

There has been an increase in reported bomb threats throughout Zagreb and the region.  Thus far, all bomb threats have been false alarms.  However, Croatian authorities will continue to treat every bomb threat as if it is real.  If you happen to be at a location that receives a bomb threat, follow the directions of the security personnel and police on-site.

Actions to Take:

  • Exercise vigilance at holiday festivals and events, places of worship, and locations with large crowds.
  • Review your personal security plans.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
