Health Alert: Czech Republic, COVID-19 Update and State of Emergency

Event:  The Czech Ministry of Health confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Czech Republic.  U.S. Embassy Prague will be sending periodic updates to ensure all U.S. citizens have the latest information about COVID-19 and local conditions.  

Updated information will be prefaced with (NEW).

 

The U.S. Embassy urges U.S. citizens to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive alerts and ensure you can be located in an emergency.  U.S. Citizens in an emergency can call 1-888-407-4747 from the U.S. and Canada or plus-1-202-501-4444 from overseas.  

 

(NEW) Beginning October 5, 2020 a State of Emergency will take effect restricting free movement and limiting the number of persons who gather.  Indoor events are restricted to 10 participants with outdoor events being restricted to 20.  Masks are required on ALL form of public transport, in all indoor premises (except place of residence) to include schools and health facilities, shops and shopping centers, government buildings, etc., and at all outdoor events if the number of participants exceeds 100 people in Prague, Central Bohemia and Zlin regions.  Most commercial establishments are open for business, subject to hygiene and social distancing requirements, though all bars and clubs in the Czech Republic will now be required to close from 10pm until 6am.  In addition, all universities and high schools in Prague will move to distance learning.  For specific information about the restrictions and all public health requirements in English, please visit the Czech Ministry of Health website. 

 

(NEWEmbassy Services:  While the U.S. Embassy in Prague has resumed limited services, we are restricting the number of people who come into the embassy due to the ongoing pandemic and daily rise in COVID cases while prioritizing passport and Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) cases.  For an appointment, please visit our websitehttps://cz.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/passports/.  We will resume full American Citizen Services as soon as possible but are unable to provide a specific date at this time.  Notarial services have been suspended at this time.  If you believe your need for a notarial service is an emergency, please contact us at ACSPRG@state.gov to inquire about an emergency appointment.  

 

Restrictions:  The Department of State has issued a Level 3 Travel Advisory for the Czech Republic:  Reconsider travel to the Czech Republic due to COVID-19.

 

In general, entry of U.S. citizens into the Czech Republic remains restricted.  For the most up-to-date information in English regarding entries of foreign nationals into the Czech Republic, go to the Czech Ministry of Interior site here.

 

Beginning September 21, 2020 all travelers arriving to the Czech Republic from a risk country (those not on the list of safe countries approved by the Ministry of Health) are required to complete an online Public Health Passenger Locator Form before entering the country.  More details can be found at the Czech Ministry of Interior webpage.   

Foreigners entering the Czech Republic from a “red” zone country (including the United States) are required to contact a regional hygiene station according to their place of stay after entry, to undergo a PCR COVID-19 test and to submit the test result to the regional hygiene station within 72 hours from the entry, otherwise, a necessary self-quarantine measure of 14 days shall be ordered.

International air carriers are offering daily and/or weekly flights to multiple European airports with connections to the United States.  Please understand that the embassy is unable to guarantee seats or assist with booking tickets on commercial flights for private U.S. citizens.  For flight numbers and times, please visit https://www.prg.aero/en/flight-information#/odlety or contact the airlines and travel agents directly.  For resumed routes and planned resumptions of airline routes, see https://www.prg.aero/en/list-of-resumed-routes.  Please review the Department of Homeland Security’s website for any information on local quarantine and/or health restrictions in place in the United States.  Ceske drahy (Czech Rails) and other train and bus operators have resumed travel from the Czech Republic to multiple countries and locations.
