Location: Croatia
Event: The U.S. Embassy in Zagreb cautions U.S. citizens of the potential for wildfires in Croatia. A number of wildfires have been reported this season, including in the counties of Istria (Barban), Zadar (Nin), and Split-Dalmatia (Jesenice). High temperatures and dry conditions are expected to persist across the region, elevating wildfire risk.
We urge U.S. citizens visiting or living in Croatia to be aware of wildfire conditions in their area and follow guidance from local authorities. Expect road closures and traffic delays in areas impacted by fires.
Actions to Take:
- Monitor the local news for updates.
- Visit the European Forest Fires Information System as well as the Croatian Firefighters Association for up-to-date fire risk information.
- Avoid dangerous areas.
- Plan for Road Constraints: In the event of wildfires or road closures, have alternative transportation options ready, and be aware that public transportation routes may be affected.
- Follow Authorities’ Instructions: If local authorities issue evacuation orders or provide safety guidelines, please follow them promptly and responsibly.
