Demonstration Alert: San Jose (Costa Rica), Protest scheduled to take place at the Plaza de la Democracia on March 29

The Embassy is alerting U.S. citizens of a protest scheduled to take place at the Plaza de la Democracia, located directly south of the Legislative Assembly in San José, on Saturday, March 29th at 11:00 a.m.  Several groups, including Partido Izquierda Costarricense and Partido Revolucionario de las y los Trabajadores, are sponsoring this event to protest U.S. policies. 

Recommendations: 

  • Be aware that peaceful protests may turn violent without warning. 
  • Expect potential traffic disruptions in the Central Market area of San José on Saturday. 
  • Remember that Costa Rican law prohibits foreigners from participating in political demonstrations. 

 

Stay Informed: 

  • Monitor local media for updates. 
  • Follow the instructions of local authorities.
