Health Alert: Madagascar and Comoros, Government of Madagascar Announces International Travel Restrictions

Location:  Madagascar and Comoros 


Event:   

As of March 18, 2020, there are no confirmed COVID-19 cases in Madagascar or Comoros, but the health systems in both countries have limited capacity to respond in the case of an outbreak.   


The Government of Madagascar announced that all international flights will be cancelled effective March 20, 2020.  The Government of Madagascar has also announced cruise ships may not stop in Madagascar.  Additional travel restrictions, health screenings, and extended quarantines may be implemented with little or no warning.   


The Department of State has issued a Global Level 3 Health Advisory for COVID-19. Peace Corps is suspending operations in Madagascar and Comoros.  


The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 2 Global COVID-19 Outbreak Notice 


Actions to Take 

  • Have a plan to depart Madagascar and Comoros at the earliest possible opportunity.
