In light of ongoing protests and demonstrations in Colombia, OSAC collected information on how the protests have impacted OSAC members and how further political unrest is expected to impact future operations. Key takeaways include:
• While the protests forced 76% of respondents to temporarily suspend operations, almost 96% of respondents did not plan to suspend or reduce operations long term. However, respondents expressed concern about long-term unrest.
• Of those who suspended operations, 36% have since resumed. However, while operations continue, many organizations reported that they are not approving travel into or within Colombia.
• Transportation access and roadblocks were the primary cause of suspended operations. Ongoing blockades near maritime ports were of particular concern and have limited the availability of goods and materials. Stranded shipments face vandalism and looting.
• 7% of respondents had personnel directly affected by protest-related violence, and 8% experienced vandalism or other property damage.
