Event: According to news reports, President Petro has declared March 18, 2025, as a "civic day". Government offices will be closed and services will not be available. Students and government workers have been called into the streets as a show of support for the government.
The Embassy is monitoring reports of planned demonstration activity beginning at 0730 Tuesday, March 18, at the RTVC Media Building (Cra. 45 #26-33), The demonstrators are expected to march south/southeast along Avenida Calle 26 to Carrera 7, then turn south to Plaza Bolivar. These demonstrations may disrupt traffic and activities throughout greater Bogota.
The mayors of some cities, including Bogota, Cali, Medellin, Cartagena, and Bucaramanga, have said that offices will be open and services will continue as normal. Contact individual government offices to confirm their status.
