Location: Nationwide

U.S. Embassy Bogota is monitoring reports of a possible Colombian Truckers Association protest scheduled to take place throughout Colombia initiating on August 30th, 2024. The demonstrations are expected to begin at 6:00 AM and may include truck caravans, to include urban and intermunicipal buses assembled throughout the country, seriously impacting traffic.  Disruptions could take place between August 30th until September 6th.

These are the known locations expected to be impacted:

  • Davivienda Central Tower (Cl. 26 No 68c – 61 – Fontibón).
  • Cemex (Av. Boyacá with Cl. 71 sur – Tunjuelito).
  • Parking lot (El Playón I Cl.13 with Cr. 93 -Fontibón).

Other points of concentration are not ruled out, like the main vehicular entrances to the city. Routes for these protests are still unknown, but the Ministry of Transport and Plaza de Bolívar are considered as possible destinations. There is also no knowledge of the number of people who will participate, but it is estimated that approximately 300 vehicles will be used in Bogota.

We advise U.S. citizens to avoid areas around rallies and demonstrations whenever possible and exercise caution when in the vicinity of any large gatherings as even peaceful demonstrations have the potential to turn violent without any warning.

Actions to Take:

Avoid crowds and demonstrations.

Comply with local regulations.

Maintain a high level of vigilance, especially in popular public areas.

Monitor local media for updates.

Plan alternative routes.
