Location: Bangui, Central African Republic
Event: Security measures throughout Bangui will be increased leading up to the presidential inauguration on March 30. U.S. Embassy personnel have been advised to avoid non-essential movements. Numerous checkpoints will be established at major roundabouts and key locations, specifically around PK0, the UN intersection, Canard Blanc, and the Presidential Palace, as well as along the primary routes connecting the palace to the stadium. Travelers should expect significant road closures between the National School of Administration (ENAM) and Martyrs intersections, with Avenue des Martyrs potentially blocked north of the University of Bangui. Additionally, the main road linking the “white dove” intersection to the airport may be temporarily closed to facilitate the arrival and departure of foreign delegations, and all roads surrounding the National Stadium will be restricted.
Actions to Take:
- Minimize unnecessary movements.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Have a plan for sheltering in place.
- Carry proper identification, including your U.S. passport with a current CAR visa.
