Location: Bujumbura

Event: Due to multiple reports of explosions in Bujumbura, the U.S. Embassy is ordering its personnel to shelter in place until further notice. Private U.S. citizens are advised to take similar precautions and monitor local media. 

Actions to Take:

  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Monitor local media
  • Follow the instructions of local authorities
  • Enroll in the Department of Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. Embassy to contact you in an emergency.
