Event: Burkinabe Government Event in Ouagadougou Thursday, July 11, 2024
The Burkinabe Government has scheduled an event for Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 0900 hours, in Ouagadougou at Palais des Sports de Ouaga 2000 within the Ouaga 2000 area of Ouagadougou. This event may negatively impact U.S. citizens’ ability to move freely within the area. The end time of the event is unknown.
It is estimated that up to 1000 invitees may attend the event, with the possibility of an unknown number of additional demonstrators.
U.S citizens should avoid the Ouaga 2000 area near Palais de Sport de Ouaga 2000 during the morning and afternoon of July 11, 2024, as well as monitor all forms of communications such as email and SAFE alert messages.
Additionally, U.S citizens should avoid large gatherings of people that may appear elsewhere and immediately depart the area if a large crowd is encountered.
Attempts to take video or photographs of demonstrations may attract attention and antagonize the crowd. Avoid risking your safety to take photographs or video.

· Avoid the demonstration area.
· Know your surroundings – Be aware of what is happening around you and have a plan to get to a safe area. Stay informed of local media reports.
· Limit non-essential travel, especially outside of the city and at night.
· Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests. Do not take photographs or videos of demonstrations.
· Monitor local media for updates.
· Keep a low profile.
