Security Alert - Belize Declares State of Emergency for Certain Areas
Location: Belize
Event: The Government of Belize declared a State of Emergency (SOE) on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. The SOE is in effect for one month. The SOE is in effect for parts of Belize City and the Belize District, and parts of the Cayo District, including Hattieville, Roaring Creek Village, Another World Area, and Camalote Village.

The SOE and section 18 of the Belize Constitution outline measures that may be taken by the government to preserve public safety during a public emergency.
U.S. citizens are reminded to exercise caution when traveling in and around Belize City due to gang violence and random, potentially violent, crimes of opportunity.
U.S. citizens should be aware that an increased police presence with checkpoints on major roads and thoroughfares may lead to increased traffic and vulnerabilities. Please consider using an alternative route during this time, be aware of your surroundings and stay vigilant in these situations. Always attempt to leave space in which to maneuver or have an escape route and when possible, avoid choke points in travel and be wary of diversions.

- Do not physically resist any robbery attempt
