Location: Lithuania-Belarus Border
Event: On October 29, 2025, the Government of Lithuania announced travel restrictions across the land border between Lithuania and Belarus until at least November 30, 2025.
Crossing at the ŠalĨininkai checkpoint is completely suspended. Transit via the Medininkai border crossing will be restricted, and travelers will only be able to cross if they meet specific exceptions.
According to the Government of Lithuania, among the exceptions at the Medininkai border crossing are:
- Citizens of NATO countries (including citizens of the United States of America);
- Citizens of the Republic of Lithuania and their family members returning to Lithuania;
- Citizens of member states of the European Union, European Economic Area, Switzerland, and Ukraine;
- Persons who have a valid residence permit or humanitarian visa in the Republic of Lithuania who are going to the Republic of Lithuania;
- Exceptional cases, as determined by the Government of Lithuania.

The U.S. government reminds U.S. citizens:
- Do not travel to Belarus, consistent with the Department of State’s Level 4 travel advisory .
- For U.S. citizens in Belarus, depart as soon as possible.
- Confirm updated border restrictions and closures.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Review your personal security plans.
- Have travel documents up to date and easily accessible.
- Carry proper identification, including a U.S. passport with a current visa as necessary.
