Event: Security in Martinique and Guadeloupe: Update
Authorities in Martinique extended a curfew through 5am on Monday, November 4th, due to ongoing unrest that has included looting, arson, street demonstrations and roadblocks. At least one person has died in the context of the unrest. While unrest has continued, media reports indicate the curfew has now been limited to between 12am (midnight) and 5am, and impacts only certain areas, to include the communes of Case-Pilote, Fort-de-France, Lamentin, Saint Joseph, and Schoelcher. Please note Lamentin is the location of Aime Cesaire International Airport.
Guadeloupe has also experienced unrest, and discontinued a curfew on the morning of Sunday, October 27. Power has been restored after a temporary outage that impacted much of the island.
U.S. citizens in Martinique should check with local authorities regarding the current security situation, specific areas impacted by the curfew and whether any travel during the hours of the curfew could fall under an exception
