Demonstration Alert: Vienna (Austria), Planned Demonstration in Vienna First District on November 26

Location: Vienna First District

Event:

Tomorrow, Tuesday, November 26th, 2024, organizers are calling on people to demonstrate and march in Vienna’s First District regarding salary negotiations for public sector employees, according to the ÖAMTC (Österreichischer Automobil-, Motorrad- und Touring-club / Austrian Automobile, Motorcycling and Touring Association) website and media reports.  The organizers are hoping for up to an estimated 15,000 participants to gather at Universitätsring, near Burgtheater, at 1:00 p.m.  At 1:30 p.m. the demonstration is expected to transition into a march along the Ringstraße to the Staatsoper and ending with a rally at Heldenplatz at 4:30 p.m. The demonstration and march will likely result in public transportation/traffic delays and disruptions, potential road closures and a visible police presence in the area. 


Actions to take:
•  Be aware of your surroundings. If you see something that seems odd or out of place, immediately notify the nearest law enforcement officer and move away from the area.
•  Always carry your cellphone, programmed with local emergency numbers; Austrian Police (133), Ambulance (144), Fire (122), Europe-wide emergency (112).
•  Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
•  Follow the instructions of authorities and road signs regarding closures and detours.
•  Monitor local media for updates.
•  Keep a low profile.
