Demonstration Alert: Vienna (Austria), Protest at the Austrian Parliament on Jan 26, 6-8pm

DEMONSTRATION ALERT: U.S. EMBASSY VIENNA, AUSTRIA (JANUARY 26, 2024)

Location: Vienna 1st District, Austrian Parliament area. 

Event:

Today, January 26, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the Vienna Police estimate 10,000 - 15,000 people will gather at the Austrian Parliament in the First District in opposition to the Freedom Party of Austria. There will be a heavy police presence and significant traffic disruptions and delays in the vicinity of the Parliament as well as temporarily blocked streets in the surrounding area. 

Actions to take:

•  Avoid the area of demonstrations.

•  Be aware of your surroundings. If you see something that seems odd or out of place, immediately notify the nearest law enforcement officer and move away from the area.

•  Always carry your cellphone, programmed with local emergency numbers; Austrian Police (133), Ambulance (144), Fire (122), Europe-wide emergency (112).

•  Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.

•  Follow the instructions of authorities and road signs regarding closures and detours.

•  Monitor local media for updates.

•  Keep a low profile.
