Location:  Argentina

Event:  There are still seats remaining on the Ethiopian Airlines flight from Buenos Aires to Sao PauloBrazil on SaturdayApril 11, at 9:55 p.m. from Ministro Pistarini International Airport (Ezeiza). Please monitor https://www.ethiopianairlines.com/ar for the latest information on the flight and ticket availability. U.S. citizens interested in departing on this flight will need to book directly with Ethiopian Airlines. The flight is subject to change.

There are direct flights from Sao Paulo to the United States. A split ticket is required, but Ethiopian can check luggage through to the final destination. U.S citizens will need an onward ticket out of Sao Paulo in order to board the Ethiopian flight.  U.S. citizens are allowed to transit Sao Paulo, staying in the international terminal.

If you need to leave Argentina, you should strongly consider booking this flight, otherwise you should be prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period. U.S. citizens sheltering-in-place should be prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period. For the provision of medical care, food, shelter, or other needs, you will need to rely on the Argentine system.

The Embassy has been informed that U.S. citizens abroad may be able to receive money from friends or family through Western Union’s affiliate in Argentina, Correo Argentino.  Correo Argentino, Argentina’s national postal service provider, has partnered with Western Union and may be able to receive U.S. money transfers at branches throughout the country.  Please visit their website: https://www.correoargentino.com.ar/servicios/financieros/giro-correo-argentino-western-union-internacional or call their customer service number +54-11-4891-9191 for more information.

Please reference our Embassy webpage on COVID-19 for options and instructions on traveling to Buenos Aires from the provinces. The Government of Argentina has implemented additional travel restrictions to limit the spread of COVID-19. Only travelers with confirmed international flight reservations may travel from the provinces to the Buenos Aires metropolitan area 24 hours in advance of the flight. If your travel to Buenos Aires will take longer than 24 hours, please email the embassy at buenosaires-acs@state.gov.

Only sporadic and often last-minute international commercial flight options currently exist in Argentina.  U.S. citizens who wish to return to the United States should make commercial arrangements as soon as possible.

U.S. citizens are responsible for booking their own travel. As we learn of additional departure opportunities, we will notify registered U.S. citizens through STEP.

The Embassy is compiling a list of citizens seeking to leave Argentina.  If you wish to leave and have not done so already, visit https://ar.usembassy.gov/covid-19, where you will find a list of information to complete and e-mail to the Embassy at the address provided on the same page.

If you have previously applied for a passport or citizenship service, you should expect significant delays receiving your passport and your citizenship evidence documents. For emergency passport services for U.S. citizens abroad, please email buenosaires-acs@state.gov.

Travelers should be prepared for additional travel restrictions to be put into effect with little or no advance notice.
