Security Alert: Luanda (Angola), Protests Appear to be Calming, July 30

Update #4

Event: A taxi driver strike in Luanda protesting rising costs escalated into violence and looting on July 28. Protesters blocked roads outside the city center, using burning tires and dumpsters, and vandalized vehicles defying the strike. Looters also targeted businesses in isolated incidents of vandalism and theft.

As of today, the situation appears to be stabilizing. However, we urge all U.S. citizens to remain vigilant and limit non-essential movement within Luanda as conditions may still evolve.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid areas of demonstrations and roadblocks.
  • Minimize unnecessary movements.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Avoid crowds and demonstrations.
  • Keep a low profile.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Review your personal security plans.
