Road Closure Alert: Luanda (Angola), December 31

Location: Key roads around Luanda, including Largo da Mutamba, Avenida Amílcar Cabral, and Avenida 4 de Fevereiro 

Event:   68th São Silvestre Pedestrian Race 

The Provincial Government of Luanda (GPL) has announced significant traffic changes on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, for the 68th São Silvestre pedestrian race.  Key roads, including Largo da Mutamba, Avenida Amílcar Cabral, and Avenida 4 de Fevereiro, will be closed starting at 3:00 PM, with parking restrictions beginning at 6:00 AM. Note that residents and road users are advised to remove vehicles prior to 3:00PM to avoid forced removal. The GPL urges citizens to cooperate with traffic police. 

American citizens are advised to consider adjusting travel times, exercise caution at busy locations, consider alternate routes, and to follow all traffic rules and regulations.

  • Avoid crowds.    
  • Keep a low profile.         
  • Notify friends and family of your safety.  
  • Be aware of your surroundings.  
  • Be vigilant when visiting banks or ATMs.  
  • Do not display signs of wealth, such as wearing expensive jewelry or watches.  
  • Stay alert in locations frequented by tourists/Westerners.  
  • Make contingency plans to leave.  
  • Review your personal security plans.
