Security Alert: Tindouf (Algeria), Heightened Risk of Kidnapping Surrounding the February 28 Marathon

This is a security alert for increased risk of kidnapping of Western nationals.

 Location: Near Camps in Tindouf, Algeria

 Event: Surrounding the planned marathon on February 28, 2024.

 Actions to take:

  • Avoid the area through March 15.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Stay alert in locations frequented by tourists/Westerners.
  • Make contingency plans to leave.
  • Review your personal security plans.
  • Have travel documents up to date and easily accessible.
  • Carry proper identification, including a U.S. passport with a current visa.
