Several media outlets reported loud explosions in Kabul, Afghanistan, on the evening of Thursday, October 9, 2025. A Taliban spokesman said they were investigating the incident. These reports further underscore the danger of travel to Afghanistan.
The U.S. Mission to Afghanistan reminds U.S. citizens that the Travel Advisory for Afghanistan remains at level 4 (“Do Not Travel”) due to the risk of civil unrest, crime, terrorism, wrongful detention, kidnapping, and limited health facilities.
As stated in the Travel Advisory, the U.S. government is unable to provide routine or emergency services consular services to U.S. citizens in Afghanistan. The U.S. Embassy in Kabul suspended operations in 2021.
