Security Alert: U.S. Mission to Afghanistan (from Doha, Qatar)
Location: All of Afghanistan
The Taliban suspended internet services across Afghanistan on September 29, 2025. The ban blocks broadband and mobile internet services, while there are reports that those with satellite internet services (such as Starlink) still have some connectivity. Communication apps, such as WhatsApp, Signal, and Telegram, are not currently working on mobile phones. We do not know when the shutdown will end.
This outage severely limits the U.S. government’s ability to communicate directly with U.S. citizens in Afghanistan and further limits our ability to provide routine or emergency services to U.S. citizens in Afghanistan.
U.S. citizens are reminded that the Travel Advisory for Afghanistan remains at level 4 (“Do Not Travel”) due to the risk of civil unrest, crime, terrorism, wrongful detention, kidnapping, and limited health facilities. U.S. citizens are also reminded that the U.S. Embassy in Kabul suspended operations in 2021.
Read the Country Information Page for additional information.
