The U.S. Mission to Afghanistan (also known as the Afghanistan Affairs Unit, which is located in Doha, Qatar) is aware of recent social media postings and news articles regarding threats to nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), including the possible detention of NGO workers and shuttering of NGO operations in Afghanistan. U.S. citizens are reminded that the Travel Advisory for Afghanistan remains at level 4 (“Do Not Travel”) due to the risk of civil unrest, crime, terrorism, wrongful detention, kidnapping, and limited health facilities. U.S. citizens are also reminded that the U.S. Embassy in Kabul suspended operations in 2021 and that the U.S. government’s ability to provide routine or emergency consular services to U.S. citizens in Afghanistan is very limited.
