Demonstration Alert: Manila, Philippines - Protests at U.S. Embassy Manila

Location: Manila

A protest is scheduled to take place at U.S. Embassy Manila on Thursday, April 9. Demonstrators are expected to assemble along Kalaw Avenue and begin marching toward the embassy at approximately 9:30 a.m.

The embassy has not received any credible threats of violence or observed any indications of potential unrest. Protests near the embassy have historically been peaceful. The U.S. embassy is scheduled to be closed April 9 for a local holiday, and no operational impacts are expected.

 Actions to Take: 

  • U.S. citizens should avoid political demonstrations. Foreign nationals found engaging in a protest could be considered in violation of their immigration status.
  • Exercise caution when in the vicinity of any large gatherings, as even peaceful rallies/demonstrations have the potential to turn violent without warning. Follow instructions from local authorities.
  • Follow local media and government sources for updates on possible public demonstrations, including information on disruptions to traffic or public services.
