Alert: Security During Upcoming National Elections

Location:   Nationwide

The Honduran national elections will take place on Sunday, November 30, 2025. U.S. citizens should anticipate significant police and military presence particularly near polling sites and voting centers, which are often located in schools and other government buildings. Demonstrations or large gatherings may occur with little or no warning. While such events can happen anywhere, areas near government buildings and polling sites are more likely to be affected. Road closures and traffic disruptions are also possible.

Actions to Take:

• Register in STEP and encourage others to do the same to receive updated information from the U.S. Embassy.
• Be aware of your surroundings.
• Carry proper identification at all times.
• Have alternative transportation routes in mind.
• Avoid crowds and demonstrations.
• Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings.
• Monitor local media and U.S. Embassy Instagram , Facebook  and X  pages for updates.   Be prepared to adjust your plans.
• Keep a low profile.
• Review your personal security plan.
• Have travel documents and identification up to date and easily accessible.
• U.S. citizens who travel abroad should always have a contingency plan for emergencies.  Review the Traveler’s Checklist .
